I am a proud Ngarrabul/Gomeroi (maternal) and Yuwaalaraay/Kooma(paternal) woman from Ngarrabul country.
Art, drawing, sewing, cooking and making things have always been a part of my life.. As far back as I can remember I have always collected all manner of things rocks, flowers, feathers, drift wood etc and taken them home to make things with.
I am lucky enough to live on a gorgeous property and have lots of neighbours where there are many bits and pieces of rusty and old relics and many visits to country for collecting things which enable me to re-purpose into art. I can therefore incorporate the bounty and beautiful from country with the modern. Identity and culture has always been a part of my life, kept alive thanks to my parents and extended family.

I am a proud Ngarrabul/Gamilaraay/ Yuwaalaraay/Kooma woman from the New England area. I have always had an interest in art and I have been painting on and off all my life. My paintings are about my many journeys and the many hats I wear – it is my spiritual strength, and learning more about my family connections to the places, we visit. My spirit has grown stronger and wiser over time (55 plus years) as I continue to gain more knowledge of my Aboriginal cultural heritage.

I am from the Ngarrabul Language of the Gomaroi Nation, and it is this custodial knowledge that enables me to identify who I am, who my family is, who my ancestors were and what my stories and Songlines are. We are indistinguishable from our country which is why we fight so hard to hang on to it.
My art takes on many forms. I bring a modern expression to an ancient custom. Despite significant change and diversity, art retains an underlying unity of inspiration—the land and the peoples’ relationships with it. It is simultaneously connected to the past whilst engaged with the present. My art is engaging with the world through actions which are lively, positive, political, social and creative. I love the way tasks overlap with memories.
I enjoy painting for healing, to feel good and to connect to my unique Aboriginal culture. My paintings are merely a new form incorporating the classic elements of Aboriginal Life. They state a person's relationship to those around them, to the land and to the Dreaming. They also represent a new context of interaction between Aboriginal and western societies. Through modern art I am able to introduce and express my culture to the world.
I am an artist who loves to use contemporary colours in my artworks. I love to share my art with friends and family it keeps my spirit strong to see the joy my art brings to them. I use a wide range of modern materials and techniques to create contemporary works of art. I paint about creation, the old people, the inner spirit, my family connections, my life journey and what makes me happy. My art is eclectic. My art is me.

Living on and Gubbi, Kabi Kabi country, Sunshine Coast area since 1984. Growing up traveling the East Coast, one base in Badtjula country, hinterlands here on the coast, Wadjarri- Dubbo also our Mother growing up in Blackheath the Blue Mountains. Beautiful area. We were not aware of our family connections in a lot of these times when we were young, until hitting teenager years. So much made sense learning of this unspoken part of our fathers side of family these unknown connections. Things I felt made sense. The trees I spoke to. The way we would feel the land space, the animals, the land and the energy,the birds. Ha those magpies caused us a good load of trouble. It was a battle to get from school gate to home. Nesting sessions.
Our mother and grandfather immersed us in bush walking, picnics in the bush, sitting in country and being with Mother Nature. Hearing the land. Seeing the land.Reading the land. This is home!!! Yet this is my family’s other side connections. My mother and father separated when I was 9 and my brother5. This is the Mother Earth Connection we may all resonate with anytime. My mother showed us both ways the earthly ways and the conformed ways so we have choice. My personal insights into holistic approach to caring for self comes from my mother who shines her light for us to take and leave what resonates. very empowering to my journey and forever grateful. My brother shows strength in walking the appropriate ways with a lot of the protocols and proper ways of finding, introducing, meeting and connecting to Elders, Traditional Owners,community members. Very empowering, on my journey.
Meeting her supportive partner Jeremy in Brisbane 2000, they together have grown up their own gorgeous family on the coast moving to Kabi Kabi country in 2002, gorgeous Kade their son, a proud young man and big hand in the production of the unique Ochre Bee clapstix, whilst also working in Health. Their daughter Roxsy stepping beautifully with loving guidance through the experience of the teens. A strong family that each have a hand in the existence of Ochre Bee. Supporting each other to get done what’s at hand.
Many beautiful experiences, many learning curves, challenges, many stories, opportunities and miracles, have created the proud, respectful, open minded, unique person you find when you connect to Ocher Bee. Meeting Sara she shines her love, light,peace, abundance always.
The Healing gained through connection, sharing, being with Ochre-earth, Wood- Slapstick tools, is a passion that continues to grow along with the empowerment of connection with self, sharing with community and learning the technological world, this is definitely something Sara is aware of, to keep balance with connecting to country, creating her crafts and running a sustainable family run business.
