Join us for an exciting workshop, where you'll discover the art of creating stunning cyanotypes, also known as sun prints or blueprints. Cholena will guide you through the process using plant materials placed on prepared fabric to create your unique print. Cyanotype or sun printing works through a light-sensitive chemical reaction using iron salts, ultraviolet (UV) light, and water to create a striking blue monochrome print. It’s an exciting experience that doesn’t take long and you’ll see changes happen throughout the entire process.

During the workshop, you will create sun prints on a couple of small pieces of fabric & a cotton tote bags that you can keep or gift to someone special.

15 years of age or over

What we supply for your use and creativity on the day:

• 2 cotton tote bags each
• All cyanotype solution needed to create your prints
• Native botanicals and equipment required for cyanotype/sun printing
• Morning tea (there will be gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian options)

What you can bring:

·        Optional - Any items from home you’d like to try to create your print eg. Favourite flower, sea shells, lace or doilies or stencils. Objects with interesting shape or are transparent.
A tshirt /top/scarf (small item of clothing) to print on 

About Cholena

Cholena Hughes is a First Nations artist, creative practitioner, and cultural advocate who grew up on Yarun (Bribie Island) on Kabi Kabi Country and has lived on Jinibara Country in the Glass House Hinterland for more than 20 years. Cholena studied visual arts at both TAFE and university and after completing study she spent more than eight years teaching art with TAFE Queensland. She now works as the First Nations Creative Development Officer with Sunshine Coast Council, a role she has held for four years. Cholena loves to share her creative skills which incorporate weaving, ceramics, printmaking including eco-printing, cyanotype, lino, etching and gel plate mono-printing. You will find her at the Gathaa Markets sharing her unique creations.
